Modern phonetic rendering, not a copy of an inscription

Neferirkare II ruled at the close of the Eighth Dynasty during the First Intermediate Period. His reign is traditionally placed around 2167 BC to 2160 BC, with dates uncertain by about thirty years. Succeeding Neferkauhor, he presided over the last years of Memphite royal dominance before power shifted to provincial centres such as Herakleopolis.

His reign lasted about seven years, concluding the continuous succession of Old Kingdom and Eighth Dynasty rulers who claimed dominion over the entire country from the north. Like his predecessor, Neferirkare II is documented in royal decrees found at Coptos, which confirmed appointments and temple privileges in Upper Egypt.

Scholars identify Neferirkare II as the last entry in the Eighth Dynasty section of the Abydos King List, alongside records on the Coptos Decrees. His burial place remains undiscovered, and no contemporary statues or funerary monuments survive.
