Senakhtenre Ahmose
Pl. 101 · also Senakhtenre Tao I
1560 BC to 1558 BC, about 2 years · Second Intermediate Period
Senakhtenre Ahmose ruled from Thebes near the close of the Seventeenth Dynasty, during the late Second Intermediate Period. He reigned about 1560 to 1558 BC, with dates uncertain by about fifteen years. He followed Sobekemsaf II and was married to Queen Tetisheri, an influential matriarch. Together they fathered Seqenenre Tao and Queen Ahhotep I, setting the stage for the military campaigns of the next generation.
His reign lasted around two years, and very little was recorded about his actions. Egyptologists long knew him primarily from later New Kingdom ancestral lists and tomb inscriptions rather than contemporary monuments. However, his existence as a builder was confirmed directly by the discovery of a limestone doorway block bearing his cartouches within the temple complex of Karnak in Luxor.
