Intef VII
Pl. 99 · also Sekhemre Shedtawy Intef, Antef VII
1571 BC to 1568 BC, about 3 years · Second Intermediate Period
Intef VII, with the throne name Sekhemre Shedtawy, ruled from Thebes during the fragmented Second Intermediate Period. He reigned about 1571 to 1568 BC, with dates uncertain by about fifteen years. He succeeded Intef VI and shared the throne with his consort Queen Haankhes, preceding Sobekemsaf II in the royal succession. Upper Egypt remained politically detached from the north during this era.
Very little is known about the events of his three-year reign. Egyptologists know of his rule mainly from his gilded rishi coffin, which was retrieved from the Dra Abu el-Naga necropolis at Thebes. The exact location of his original tomb in the necropolis remains disputed among archaeologists, reflecting the sparse material record left by monarchs during this brief period before the reunification wars.
