Rudamun
Pl. 161 · also Usermaatre Sankhenamun Rudamun
759 BC to 755 BC, about 4 years · Third Intermediate Period
Rudamun reigned over the Theban region during the Third Intermediate Period, holding power from about 759 BC to 755 BC, with dates uncertain by about six years. He was the son of Osorkon III and Queen Karoatjet, and he followed his brother Takelot III to the throne. His capital was Thebes, where his family had controlled the priesthood of Amun and the surrounding territory for several generations.
His rule was brief and coincided with increasing political fragmentation across Upper and Lower Egypt. Egypt was divided among multiple competing local dynasties, including rival rulers in the delta and emerging pressure from the Kushite kingdom to the south. No burial place or mummy has been identified for Rudamun, reflecting the scarce material record of this fractured era.
Scholars know of Rudamun primarily through surviving architectural records in Upper Egypt, including relief work at the Osiris Heqa-djet chapel at Karnak and inscriptions at the temple complex of Medinet Habu.
